MACOMB, Ill.- Western Illinois head tennis coach Michael Hunt was recently named the USTA/Middle Illinois District president after serving as the executive vice president of the organization for the last three years.
“It’s both an honor and a great responsibility to be elected to this position and I will treat it with the utmost respect,” said Hunt. “I have been fortunate to work in many of the communities in the USTA/Middle Illinois District and I think I have a pretty comprehensive view of the strengths and needs of each community (Hunt has worked in the Champaign-Urbana, Charleston, Danville and Bloomington-Normal communities in addition to Macomb).”
The USTA/Middle Illinois District is the governing body for 39 counties in Illinois including cities such as Champaign-Urbana, Bloomington-Normal and Peoria. Hunt brings a lot of experience to the position as he has been on the board of directors since 2005. He also has served on the USTA Midwest Section Collegiate from 2006-07 (now the USTA Midwest Section Eighteen/Thirty Committee) and will serve on the committee again for the upcoming 2009-10 season.
“We have an outstanding executive director in Vicki Schmidgall, two very knowledgeable past-presidents in Norma Shook and Jim Davis, and the best TSR (tennis service representative) in the entire Midwest Section in Bret Schrama,” said Hunt. “I will rely on all four to help Middle Illinois accomplish its goals over the next year.”
