MACOMB, Ill. Joe Rodrigues earned his first win of the 2007 season in leading Western Illinois to a 10-1 victory Tuesday at Alfred D. Boyer Stadium. The senior from Oologah, Okla., threw five complete innings allowing just one run on two hits and stuck out four.

The Leathernecks (25-16) held the Eagles (19-24) to just four hits and held them scoreless over the final eight innings.

Robert Morris took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but Western answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning and took the lead for good in the third when Cooper Stewart was walked home with the bases full giving Western a 2-1 lead.

The Leathernecks added three more in the fourth when Brett Pendell, Peter Schneider and Travis Check all scored. Pendell started the two-out rally with a bunt single and then moved up to second when Schneider was plunked. Check then drove in Pendell with a single to left and Schneider avoided the tag on the relay to the plate. Check scored the final run of the inning after stealing third and then scored on an errant throw by catcher Marc Albano.

The Leathernecks added five more insurance runs in the fifth. Aaron Madill, Frank Zenisek and Asfandyar Khan all saw relief action.

Check led the way at the plate for Western going 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Pendell was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and three runs scored. Chris Mayr and Kyle Surprenant both drove in a run each and T.J. Kistner was the only other Leatherneck to get multiple hits going 2-for-4.

The Leathernecks continued their winning ways at home improving their home record in Alfred D. Boyer Stadium to 22-3 and have won seven straight at home and 13-15 overall. Western is 10-2 at home this year with the only losses being to Big Ten member Purdue.

Western will now play Bradley tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. at Alfred D. Boyer Stadium.
