Improvements to east side of Hanson Field

  • Increased seating capacity from 3,800 to 5,000
  • Original wood bleachers (built in 1955) replaced with aluminum seating
  • ADA compliant restrooms
  • Concession stands
  • Entrance on the south end of the stadium

Scope

  • The improvements come as part of the University’s commitment to improve cost effectiveness and accountability and ensure a safe environment for its students. The renovation will enhance student safety and allow greater access for all students. Funding for the project is supported by a facilities enhancement and life safety fee of $7 per credit hour established at the request of student leaders.
  • The renovation to the east side of the stadium, part of the Western Illinois University Master Facilities Plan and the largest facility improvement of the Target: Western Forward Facilities Initative, includes new bleachers, increased seating capacity, new entrance, restrooms and concession stands.

Timeline

  • Construction was completed in September 2007.
